Special Court

From Hope City Stories

A special trial; normally involving public figures, treason, corruption in the City Council, or all of the above. These cases are heard before a panel of either three or five judges from the Circle of Justices. If there is any complaint about the conduct or impartiality of the judges, an appeal can be made to have the case judged by the Mayor and four City Councillors instead.

A Special Court is always held in Court One, Two, or Four at the Civic Justice Annex. It can be called by any influential political figure, or by the judges in a lesser court. If there is a case for the impeachment of a Councillor, the matter must be settled by a Special Court. It is different from a regular court in that, subject to appeal or veto, a Special Court can change the letter of the law in order to ensure a fair verdict.
