Silas Buxton
From Hope City Stories
Notable as the first person in Hope City to be killed by supernormal abilities. Buxton was a homeless drifter, who started to lose sanity after being accidentally dosed with claustronium in the water supply. He became paranoid and delusional, and during the short story In The Water he attempted to hold a group of high school students hostage, shooting two children and one teacher before he was unfortunate enough to attack Jayce Clauster.
His official cause of death was reported as a brain aneurysm, although his central nervous system was actually destroyed by millions of crystal fragments that had deposited there simultaneously leaving his body.
He was later resurrected as an experiment by Professor Normal and an allied biologist (NB: Not sure if this should be a character previously named). He had the destroyed parts of his brain replaced with lab-cultured tissue, and a crystal web replacing the rest of his nervous system. This means he is also notable as the first purposefully created black mask. However, as he showed a considerable anti-intellectual bias, and his reconstructed brain showed higher speed but less depth of thought than the original, Professor Normal dismissed him as “Too stupid to be useful” (with an IQ score only a couple of points over 100). Therefore Buxton (Or Nemesis, as he would have been known) was placed in cryogenic stasis within the Labyrinth and forgotten.
